Scope and content

This subseries contains records concerning Peruvian Sisters and the Associates, also referred to as Co-Members or Co-Sisters (Co-Hermanas), of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Pembroke’s mission in Peru. Associates are those who participate in the Sisters charism but do not take religious vows.
The material concerning the two Peruvian Sisters of St. Joseph of Pembroke, Sisters María Choqués Cespedés and Gloria Muchaypiña Salhuana, primarily focuses on visits to them, their interactions with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in Peru, their English as a Second Language studies in Canada, their ministry, and their future planning. There are also copies of the agreement with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet regarding the care of Sisters in Peru.
The bishop’s decree approving the statutes of the Associates and the statutes of the Associates in English and Spanish are present. There are lists of Associates since 1984, outlines of what the Associates do, Power of Attorney for the Peru mission, retreat itineraries, meeting minutes, agendas, evaluations, prayer cards, a summary from a seminar related to Latin America ministry, correspondence, photographs, and ministry evaluations. There are three Spanish booklets about the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Associates in Canada and in Peru, one of which is a translation of Threads and Spaces. There are also evaluations and material from a collaborative meeting between the Sisters of St. Joseph of Pembroke Associates in Chincha and the Sisters of St. Joseph of London Associates in Zaña as well as from the amalgamation into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada.
There is correspondence primarily between the Associates and Sisters concerning operations, agreements, distribution of donations, the 2007 earthquake, and finances. There is also material related to the creation and execution of LINKS, a program where Sisters in Canada sent letters to the Sisters and Associates in Peru to forge a stronger connection.
There are photographs of Sisters and Associates, jubilees, reception ceremonies, Peruvians, and the signing of an agreement with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in Peru. There are also PowerPoint presentations of photographs from some of these events. There are two DVDs with recordings of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Associates and the blessing of the statue of St. Joseph.
Along side this material are reports of activities by Sister Nicole Aube when she travelled to Peru which cover the 2007 earthquake, updates on the activities of the Peruvian Sisters’ and Associates’ ministries, celebrations, and visits with other religious. There is also a booklet to Sister Nora Kelly Daly filled with photographs and letters to her from members of the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima.
