This subseries contains a short history and autobiographical account on the activities performed by Sister Valerie Van Cauwenberghe of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London, Ontario while she lived in an apartment complex designed for community living for seniors on Gainsborough Road in London from December 8, 2006, to December 10, 2008. Sister Valerie documented her work at the Gainsborough Road Community Apartment with the residents. She wrote that she previously lived in the same apartment building from Fall 1997 to April 1, 2003, and served on a committee to help formulate the residents’ Constitution. Upon her return in 2006, she gave prayer service twice a month and planned and conducted an annual service for the residents. Sister Valerie also wrote about her role as a Lector, reading Sacred Scripture out loud on a weekly basis during Mass at St. George Catholic Church, in the community of Byron.
Also in this subseries, Sister Valerie documented her Ministry of Leadership. She wrote about being a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London Leadership Team and having to attend monthly Council Meetings. She was appointed Acting Executive Director by the Canadian Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada to lead the “Oneness Project,” a committee formed to oversee the potential amalgamation of the Congregations in Canada. Sister Valerie documented her work as a Board member of the International Centre of the Sisters of St. Joseph, a global coordinating group consisting of Sisters of St. Joseph from all over the world. She recorded her travels to Federation Leadership Assembly meetings in Pennsylvania in the USA and to Le Puy-en-Velay and Lyon in France. In addition, Sister Valerie wrote about an article she authored titled “Teachers and Children,” in Issue 592 of Seminar, a monthly education journal based in New Delhi, India, that was published in December 2008.
