This file contains correspondence between the Sisters on mission in Red Lake, the motherhouse in Hamilton, and the Diocese of Thunder Bay. Topics include the Sisters social activities, ministries in Red Lake and Pikangikum First Nation, and an anniversary celebration. There is also a summary of the role of the parish administrator and printed photographs of Sisters at Christmas and the Sisters with miners.
This subseries contains correspondences by Sisters of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London, Ontario regarding their mission in northern Perú. Topics include, but are not limited to first communion preparations, catechetical programs, celebrations, walking-reflection retreat days, departures in London before traveling to live and work in Perú, feast days and parties in the village, observations after natural catastrophes, conversations with Canadian priests, cooking, sewing, and craft groups, and the daily routine at the medical clinic. Of special note is a letter for the request of volunteers to Perú, written by Reverend Mother Julia Moore after her first visit to Perú to investigate future missions. In addition, there are correspondences written to the Diocese of London providing information on the various aspects on the Sisters’ mission efforts in the Zaña Valley, and to various people in Perú, such as the Archbishop Romolo Carboni in Lima; Gustavo Aspillaga, the Director General of Aspillaga Anderson Hermanos S. A.; and Reverend Gerard Dionne, the Secretary General of the Latin American Office in Ottawa, Ontario. Of special interest is a document regarding responses to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, dated May 22, 1997, titled “Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for America – Missionary Links between the Church in Canada and Latin America.” There is also a letter in the Spanish language thanking the Sisters for Comedor Aviacion, a children’s food program in the district of Aviación, Calyalti.
Sub-series consists of letter from General Superior to Sisters and decorative Christmas card and envelope with list of donors of a car that was given to the Sisters.
This subseries contains correspondence created and received by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Pembroke, Ontario who were on mission in Peru. The correspondence concerns the establishment and operation of medical clinics and school, trips, finances, holidays, parish work, leadership, properties, the Novitiate, scholarships, liturgical services, the catechetics program, concerns regarding foreign aid, daily activities, and the Oneness Project. The Oneness Project was about the potential amalgamation of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada and the role of the Federation of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada. A portion of the correspondence is specifically related to the activities in Aucayacu. Some of the correspondences are chronicles of mission activities. In addition to the correspondence, there is other material. There are also contracts with the local parish outlining Sisters labours, with the Sisters of the Holy Cross and Congregation of Oblates of Mary Immaculate regarding collaborative work and an inter-congregational community, and with a Notary Public establishing the Power of Attorney for the mission. Mission evaluations related to apostolic activities such as the schools, catechetics, liturgical activities, a Girls Club, and nursing are also present. There is one set of meeting minutes from the Sisters in Peru related to the 1977 Chapter report. Chapters are meetings held within the congregation every four years where major decisions, such as voting on leadership, are made. There are also news clippings and newsletters about the mission, a pamphlet from the 1971 Orientation Program for Latin American Services from the U.S. Catholic Conference, and a booklet from the 1980 Congreso Internacional para la Familia de las Américas. There is also a 2004 decree from the Mayor of the Municipality of Chincha recognizing the contributions of Sister Nora Kelly to the area and blueprints of Colegio Parroquial, Chincha Alta, which is likely Colegio San Jose.
This series contains correspondence related to Sister Mary Anthony Hartleib’s artworks. There are thank you letters from the recipients of Sister Mary Anthony’s icons, and a sale agreement with the Canadian Museum of Civilization. The series also includes newspaper clippings, photographs and correspondence related to a plaque at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sarnia, Ontario and armorial bearings at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario.
This file contains correspondence between Sisters relating to retreats, finances, sabbaticals, pontifical status of the Congregation, the Symbol Committee and their work on creating a symbol for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton, and the closing of the Maple Avenue residence.
