This series consists of some brief information by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London, Ontario during their ministry at St. Peter’s Seminary in London, from 1912 to 1980. There are several lists of the Sisters of St. Joseph on staff who were stationed at St. Peter’s Seminary and employed in housekeeping from 1912 to 1980. There is correspondence from 1967 to 1970 addressed to Mother M. Julia (Cecilia) Moore and letters dated from 1972 to 1973 addressed to Mother Mary Brendan. These are concerning the financial administration of the Sisters’ employment at St. Peter’s Seminary. There is also correspondence from 2005 and 2018, from Katsu Iguchi, a survivor of the Japanese internment camps in British Columbia, wishing the Sisters of St. Joseph a happy Christmas and thanking them for the care they gave him while working at St. Peter’s Seminary. There are news clippings from St. Peter’s Seminary, The Alumni Bulletin, related to the work of the Sisters, and their move from the Seminary to Mount St. Joseph (also referred to as the Motherhouse). In addition, there is a landscape photograph of the front exterior of St. Peter’s Seminary in 1926, and a close-up photograph of a commemorative plaque that was presented to the Sisters of St. Joseph.

This series contains the history of Josephs’ House that was founded and operated by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London, Ontario. Josephs’ House served as initial interim accommodation for newly arrived refugees sponsored by the Community and refugee claimants who landed in London. The Sisters resettled sponsored refugees and assisted refugee claimants towards gaining permanent residency through the Canadian citizenship and immigration process. This series contains short histories, correspondence, lists of refugees, news clippings, and a photograph all related to the refugee ministry at Josephs’ House in London, Ontario. In addition, there is a photo album that contains photographs and negatives depicting Sisters, priests, construction workers, refugees, and volunteers at Josephs’ House on Dundas Street East in London, Ontario. The photographs depict different rooms inside the house, as well as the exterior and interior renovations at Josephs’ House. There are photographs of the residents at Josephs’ House participating in different activities such as: children playing with toys, having fun in the snow, and decorating a Christmas tree; students studying the English language, preparing meals, and rearranging furniture; and Sisters performing various household tasks. There are also photographs of celebrations, social gatherings, holidays, and trips to Gibbons Park and Storybook Gardens in London, Wildwood Conservation Area in St. Mary’s, Niagara Falls, and Ottawa.

Series contains Sister Norita Keenan’s single page memoir, a postulant requirement list, souvenir booklet of the Diamond Jubilee, chaplain list, meal seating plan, farewell ceremony agenda and schedule, photographs, land and property maintenance receipts, property sketch, chronology of property transfers and sales, rededication ceremony program and speech, letter from General Superior to Sisters, decorative Christmas card and envelope with list of donors of a car, newspaper clippings, student created books, and Bach sheet music owned by Cesar Borre.

This fonds contains the annals of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Pembroke, Ontario. There are annals recording the Sisters activities in Pembroke and at each mission. The annals cover the Sisters activities in Penticton, British Columbia; Barrhead, Alberta; Radville and Regina, Saskatchewan; Bancroft, Barry’s Bay, Calabogie, Deep River, Des Joachims, Douglas, Madawaska, Mount St. Patrick, Ottawa, Pembroke, Petawawa, Renfrew, and Whitney, Ontario; Campbell's Bay, Chapeau, and Quyon, Quebec; and abroad in Peru. Some annals also contain information about contemporary events and the history of the mission locations. In addition to the annals there is relevant correspondence, meeting minutes, news clippings, histories, and photographs about the Sisters and the locations of the missions. There are also the written vows of Sister Mary Patricia, a report on poverty in Peru in 1997, a list of Bishops of the Pembroke Diocese from 1898 to 1993, and publications of The Parish Bulletin from 1976-1980.

This series consists of records documenting the mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton in Chetwynd, British Columbia and the surrounding communities between 1976 and 1983, along with supplemental records of earlier British Columbia missions. The records include historical reports, photographs, correspondence, event programmes, postcards and greetings cards, newspaper and magazine clippings, scrapbook pages, pamphlets, poetry, and song lyrics.

This fonds contains records produced during the time the Sisters administered and worked at Mount St. Joseph Centre in Hamilton. It also consists of records which were produced by the Woodview Children’s Centre and Cool School in Burlington and Hamilton. These institutions grew out of Mount St. Joseph Centre after it ceased its functions. The records that encompass this collection are of historical importance because they offer a snapshot of special needs education during the latter half of the twentieth century. The fonds consists of bylaws and policies, correspondence, proposals and reports, a scrapbook, meeting minutes, financial records, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, invitations, addresses, and legal documents.

The first subseries consists of biographical chronologies and speaking notes including a presentation to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Board in 1987. Included are copies of her educational achievement certificates and information about her membership in Sigma Theta Tau, the National Honor Society of Nursing, United States. There are several photographs and newsclippings from various times throughout her ministry. Highlights from the correspondence include exchanges with Bishop Sherlock, Bishop of London, an appeal to the federal government for aid to Ethiopia and a reply from the Minister of External Affairs, and a letter from the Vice-Chancellor granting approval to establish at chapel at a mission house in 1979. Copies of speaking notes for a variety of presentations are included with event programs. An event program for her Feat Day in 1987, which included performances by the Chatham Mosaics and the Kent Players, is also present. There are several letters of congratulations and greeting cards. There are a few mementos of her trip to Rome.

This series consists of contracts, deeds, plans, and newspaper clippings relating to Hellmuth College from 1866-1952. There is a general history and photographs of Hellmuth College. The series includes photographs of the Chapel and Motherhouse. The series contains a description of the layout of the Orphanage as well as information regarding the day-to-day routines. The series also contains notes on the process of purchasing the Mills property and written summaries of ecclesiastical events such as the Eucharistic Congress at Mount St. Joseph in July, 1923 and the visit of Cardinal Villeneuve in 1934. There are also special issues of the Western Gazette and magazine and newspaper articles, including a biography of Bishop Hellmuth, and the building of the new Motherhouse.

This sous-fonds contains material created and amassed by Sister Marie Angela Aubert. Sister Marie Angela Aubert was a writer of poetry, articles, poems and more and much of that material is included here. The scripts, records, and correspondence about the over 140 plays she wrote inspired by the Bible are present. A notable inclusion is The Great Adventure, a play written and produced by Sister Marie Angela Aubert for the 125th Anniversary of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London. There is also correspondence with the Bishops of London granting her plays Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat, which means that the content of the plays was found to be in keeping with the teachings of the Church, are of good quality, and can be published. Her work was also included in Fine Lines: 1997 Anthology and Fine Lines II: 1998 Anthology by London & Area Writers. Both books are within this sous-fonds. In addition, there are various serial publications and clippings present which feature Sister Marie Angela Aubert’s poems, plays, reflections on her life and religious experiences, articles on education, and Letters to the Editor. There is also a research paper she wrote on the impact of Christianity in a detention centre. Sister Marie Angela Aubert was the Coordinator of R.C. [Roman Catholic] Jail Ministry Volunteers and the scripts for communion services at Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre are present here, too. The sous-fond also includes certificates, diplomas, transcripts, and teaching licenses presented to and earned by Sister Marie Angela Aubert, including her B.A. diploma from the University of Windsor and B.Ed. diploma from the University of Alberta. Sister Marie Angela Aubert spent much of her life as a teacher. While working at O'Leary High School she got the students involved in the Junior Achievements Program and at Catholic Central High School she supervised the CCH Business Club. Newsletters, administrative documents, correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and an article written by her from these two programs are included in this sous-fonds. There are also invitations, awards lists, and thank-you notes from Sister Marie Angela Aubert’s time at these schools.

This is a collection of histories and reference material, including publications and photocopies of historical documents and correspondence, created and collected by the Sisters illustrating the foundation and history of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London, Ontario. Topics range from the founding of the religious order of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Le Puy, France by Father Jean Pierre Médaille in 1648 to the activities of the Sisters of St. Joseph in the diocese of London, Ontario from their foundation to the early 2000s. A major focus of the material is on the founding of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London as a branch of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto and the establishment of an independent congregation. Many of the Sisters wrote accounts, chronicles, booklets, and essays on their history, some of which were published. Drafts and published versions of these writings are included here alongside histories written by those from outside the congregation. There are also various photocopies of records from the late 1800s related to the early history of the Sisters. This includes publications on their history, correspondence about establishing the community (though there are also some original correspondence), Acts of Profession, Acts of Reception, the 1871 Act of Incorporation and the 1915 and 1938 amendments. There are, however, original documents from the late 1800s and early 1900s as well, such as photographs of Sisters, “History of the Sisters of St. Joseph,” (which was written at Sacred Heart Convent, London), and an excerpt from a manuscript by Bishop R. H. Dignan. The approbation decree and pontifical rights from the Holy See in Rome for Sisters of St. Joseph of London’s are also present. The material in this collection also includes photographs, postcards, a photo album, and news clippings.
