    Portée et contenu

This subseries contains the history of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London, Ontario, during their ministry at the Kipps Lane Community House in London. On June 17, 1991, Sister Noella Armstrong, Sister Elizabeth Sexton, and Sister Donna Quinlan moved into the townhouse on Kipps Lane. This subseries provides a glimpse into their varied activities, roles, and responsibilities.

Sister Noella was a member of the Victorian Order of Nurses with a specialization in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome patient care. Sister Elizabeth was a member of the Board and support staff with the London Inner City Faith Team Housing Incorporated and served as the Coordinator of the London Coffee House, a drop-in support and socialization centre for adults at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Sister Donna taught at St. Anne Catholic Elementary School in St. Andrew’s Parish, provided pastoral care as the Eucharist Minister at St. Andrew’s Church, and joined the Community Services Team to provide healthcare services at the Guest Wing of Mount St. Joseph in London, Ontario. There is also mention of her time teaching remedial reading with Sister Diane Naud in Rae, Northwest Territories.

Sister Loretta Manzara moved to the Kipps Lane Community Apartment in 1993 and the records present document her ministries. Sister Loretta was the appointed Director of Liturgy for the Diocese of London. At St. Peter’s Seminary in London, she served as the Music Director of the Seminary Chapel and taught a Deacons Course in the London Diocese Permanent Deacon Program. Sister Loretta was the President-elect and member of the Executive Committee of the Hymn Society, a national organization that promoted congregational singing in the United States and Canada. Records in this subseries document Sister Loretta’s work as a primary contributor to the 1992 Catholic Book of Worship III, a national hymnal music resource book for Liturgy. As a follow-up, Sister Loretta gave in-service workshops on music for religious ceremonies and sacred rites on a cross Canada tour. In March 1999, Sister Loretta was elected as a member of the Leadership Team of the General Council of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s of London, Ontario. In addition, this series contains records that document Sister Loretta’s on-going work as a committee member of the Finance Meeting Group and her service as the Community Treasurer and General Treasurer.
