Bereik en inhoud

This series consists mainly of photographs of the various events and activities of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in London, Ontario, during their foreign mission in northern Perú. There are four photo albums from 1962 to 1998, with titles and captions for the photographs. The subject matter depicted primarily includes the Sisters teaching elementary students, conducting classes with married couples, leading art, music, and dance classes, running art exhibitions, clothing sales, and soup kitchens, managing a sewing centre and a bakery, assembling school desks, setting up a metalsmith workshop, moving furniture and belongings, live performances of the Peruvian folkloric troupe Alma Zañera, the openings and blessings of new centres, retreats and conferences, seasonal celebrations, welcoming and farewell parties, and local Peruvian feasts and events. In addition, there are loose photographs that capture the daily life of the Sisters and Canadian priests ministering in Perú. Of noteworthy consideration are photographs and news clippings of 1982 to 1983 and 1997 to 1998 El Niño, a climate pattern of unusually warm ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific that causes severe flooding. There are also hand drawn maps, handwritten notes, greeting cards, a poster artwork that has seven captioned photographs of the Sisters and Canadian priests, as well as a handmade calendar, from 1980 that has original drawings and a group picture of the Sisters in Cayalti, Perú.
