Scope and content
This subseries contains a photocopy of a newspaper article titled, “Hospital chaplains head to Ground Zero to offer comfort – trio brace themselves to witness aftermath of Sept. 11 devastation.” It was authored by Paul Northcott, a staff writer for The Journal, in Edmonton, and published in October 2001. The news clipping was sent to Sister Connie Kuefler from Sister Alice Caza. The news article is about Sister Ethel Steinkey, chaplain at Misericordia Community Hospital, who was about to embark on a two-week long mission to New York City offer counselling to the crew at Ground Zero who were tasked with clearing away the rubble left behind in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers. The staff at the Community Hospital had raised funds to pay for her flights and lodging. There is a printed picture of a profile of a smiling Sister Ethel by Ed Kaiser, The Journal staff photographer.
