Scope and content
This sub-series contains notes and scholarship about tertianship. Included is the publication To Nuns on the Imitation of Christ, a Sponsa Christi pamphlet, notes written by Sister Mary Angela [Flaherty?] for the 1966 tertianship event, and a list of sisters who attended the 1963 tertianship event. There are also photographs of tertianship classes and a crucifix inscribed on the back with “Tertianship ’58. Pray for JWE CSB,” a reference to Basilian priest James William (Jim) Embser (1905-1984). Father Embser obtained both his B.A. (1928) and M.A. (1942) at the University of Western Ontario. He was ordained in 1931, and taught Latin for 52 years at many different schools in Detroit, Houston, and Rochester. He also served as principal at several schools, and councilor for his community. His final position was at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, where he gave retreats to Sisters and lay groups, and served on the local council for his community for ten years.
