This subseries contains the chronicles of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of London, Ontario during their summer vacations at St. Joseph’s-on-the-Lake in Kingsville, Ontario. There is a short history of St. Joseph’s-on-the-Lake assembled by Sister Dolorosa Sullivan with input provided by the daughter of the properties previous owners, Miriam Woodbridge. There is correspondence, newspaper articles, and brochures relating to the historical legacy of the property before it was owned by the Sisters, as well as the efforts of Troy and Anne Loop to transform the building into a commercial inn and spa after the Sisters sold the property. There is also a financial account book from 1954 to 1970.
There is a list of Sisters who planned on attending the closing celebration for St. Joseph’s-on-the-Lake, to be held at St. Joseph’s-on-the-Lake on October 17 and 18, 1998. There is a “Memory Book,” project dubbed the “Lakeside Memories,” which was organized by Sister Bernadette Boyde. Sisters who had vacationed at the lake house were given a page to write their favourite memory of St. Joseph’s-on-the-Lake. The written pages of memories were collected to be displayed at the closing day celebration of St. Joseph’s-on-the-Lake. There are recollections on rest, relaxation, peaceful days, swimming, sunbathing, beach picnics, swinging on the garden swing, motor trips, buying groceries from road stalls, playing bridge, cooking, and sharing meals. There are also brochures on the closing program of events, including the lyrics for 30 songs in a song sheet titled Old Time Favourites, and printed pictures of St. Joseph’s-on-the-Lake. In addition, there are photographs of the chapel and sunset, as well as photographic negatives related to the closing ceremonies at St. Joseph’s-on-the-Lake.
