Scope and content

This series consists of historical research conducted by Mother Julia Moore. Material includes research material, pamphlets, magazines, clippings, notes, correspondence, and drafts of writings. The topics covered include general histories and timelines, histories of the Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada, histories of the congregation in London, histories of Sisters in Western Canada, history of the Canadian Medaille Team (a congregation wide study group dedicated to the translation and study of the primitive constitutions, spiritual life and observances), history and symbology of the coat of arms; histories of the Sisters in Peru, histories of the community institutions run by the Sisters in London, and house histories (institutions and residences of the Sisters of St. Joseph) from across Canada. Her research primarily covers the late 1800’s to the late 1900’s. Material of note includes research for, drafts, and published versions of Beginnings in London Diocese 1868-1878 by Mother Julia Moore; a photocopy of Frontiers and Foundations 1851-1985; Alice Mulvey’s unpublished article “A 20th Century Haven” which summarizes the history of Marian Villa in London, Ontario; correspondence concerning the Post-Conciliar Commission; Centre Report Volume 4, Issue 15 (July 20, 1989), a publication by St. Joseph’s Health Centre of London; a photocopy of the pamphlet for the Sisters of St. Joseph Federation International’s 150th anniversary event in 1989; pamphlets from the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada Federation’s 135th anniversary event in Toronto, 1989; material from the workshop for congregational archivists held in Missouri in 1985; and material from Summer Institute 1975, an event organized by the Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada to gather, share, and present their research, including notes, itineraries and outlines of a lecture on Jean Pierre Médaille. A few items are in French and Spanish.
