Scope and content
This subseries contains records of travels to Chicha Alta, Peru with lay people arranged primarily by Sister Pauline Coulterman who acted as liaison between Canadian benefactors and the Peruvian Sisters. These are referred to as visits, short missions, and pilgrimages.
Personal accounts and reports of Sisters and lay people on mission, pilgrimages, and visiting Peru are present, often in the form of journal logs recounting the activities and journey. Topics and activities recorded include providing aid after the 2007 Earthquake, purchasing and distributing supplies to schools and those in need, a water project, access to medical care, construction projects, living conditions of those in need, sight seeing, weather, and travel. There are also accounts of fundraising efforts in Canada. Accompanying or within the accounts are photographs of the Sisters, lay people on the trips, the various projects they participated in, Peru, and the Peruvians they interacted with. There is also an itinerary and account of the 28th Ottawa Scouting Group International Community Development Project of 2013 which saw Canadian youth travel to Lima, Chincha Alta, Cusco, and Machu Picchu to assist in construction projects, such as at the senior’s residence and Systema Educational Temporal schools. The group stayed with the Sisters while in Chincha Alta.
There is other material along side the accounts. This includes an outline of the Short-Term Missionary Service in South America Project, which was a pitch to have Sisters come to Chincha Alta, Chincha Baja, and Comas for six-month to a year. There is also a list of the cost of supplies to provide to schools and those in need and cards from holidays and religious events.
